Whois Lookup Tool

The RootUtils Whois Lookup connects directly to the global WHOIS database to retrieve ownership and registration information for any domain name. It automatically detects the correct registry server (e.g., Verisign for .com, PIR for .org) to give you the most accurate data.

What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is a widely used Internet record listing that identifies who owns a domain, how to contact them, and when the domain expires. It is like a "phone book" for the internet.

What information can I find?

  • Registrar Info: Which company manages the domain (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).
  • Important Dates: When the domain was created and exactly when it expires.
  • Name Servers: The servers (DNS) that are directing traffic for the domain.
  • Domain Status: Checks if the domain is active, locked, or in a "redemption period" (pending deletion).

Why is some information hidden?

Due to privacy laws like GDPR, many registrars now redact personal contact information (email, phone number, address) from the public WHOIS record. You will often see "Redacted for Privacy" or "Contact Privacy Inc." in place of the owner's name. This is normal and protects domain owners from spam.
