Free UTM Builder & Campaign URL Creator

Accurately track your marketing traffic with the RootUtils UTM Builder. This tool appends standard UTM parameters (Urchin Tracking Module) to your URLs, allowing analytics tools like Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Mixpanel, and HubSpot to tell you exactly where your visitors are coming from.

Why use a Campaign URL Builder?

Without UTM tags, all traffic from Facebook, Newsletters, or Guest Blogs might just show up as "Direct" or "Referral" in your analytics. By tagging your links, you can see granular data:

  • Which platform works best? (Facebook vs. LinkedIn)
  • Which format drives clicks? (Banner vs. Text Link)
  • Which specific post performed well? (The "Summer Sale" post vs. "Winter Clearance")

The 5 Standard UTM Parameters

  • utm_source (Required): The specific referrer (e.g., google, newsletter, facebook).
  • utm_medium (Required): The marketing medium (e.g., cpc, email, banner, social).
  • utm_campaign: The name of your specific campaign (e.g., spring_sale, product_launch).
  • utm_term: Usually used for paid search keywords.
  • utm_content: Useful for A/B testing ads (e.g., logo_link vs. text_link).

Best Practices for Tagging

Always use lowercase letters for your tags (e.g., use "email" not "Email"). Google Analytics is case-sensitive, so it will treat them as two different channels if you are inconsistent.
